Mark 6:19-21

¹⁹ So Herodias held a grudge against him and wanted to kill^(A) him. But she could not, ²⁰ because Herod was in awe^(B) of^[a] John and was protecting him, knowing he was a righteous^(C) and holy^(D) man. When Herod heard him he would be very disturbed,^[b](E) yet would hear him gladly.^(F)

²¹ Now an opportune time came on his birthday, when Herod gave a banquet^(G) for his nobles,^(H) military commanders,^(I) and the leading men of Galilee.^(J)
